How I Work

Therapy with me is a process of discovery that reveals itself slowly, like gradually adjusting the focus of a camera. Sometimes, clarity emerges in an instant. Other times, it may take weeks or months for things to take shape, to understand and integrate what you’re learning about yourself and your world. It can feel daunting to begin therapy without knowing exactly what to expect, and that’s okay. My role is to guide you through this process; we cannot have all the answers up front. I aim to understand your complexity and uniqueness rather than following a formulaic path.

Our work will be both emotional and deeply thoughtful. We will examine your life with scientific precision: observing the stories you tell yourself about your life, your relationships, and your struggles. These stories often reflect beliefs you’ve held for so long that they feel immutable—until something happens to challenge them. We’ll work to generate new information about these beliefs through conversations, reframing, and sometimes practical experiments. For example, I may suggest trying a different behavior at home, then reflecting on how it felt and what you learned. In this way, therapy becomes a process of uncovering truths, revising old patterns, and gathering insights that can help you build a more fulfilling life.

In therapy we acknowledge and work with what’s real, even if it feels awkward or as embarrassing as being covered in mud. We are not going to pretend the mud isn’t there. Instead, we'll get our hands dirty together, returning to the mess as often as needed to make sense of it. Therapy is your space to explore, to experiment, to feel, and to grow. My goal is to help you navigate your experiences with curiosity and compassion, providing a relationship that offers the insight and support you need to make meaningful changes.

About David

I hold a BA in Literature and Writing from SUNY Purchase and an MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University. During my clinical traineeship at Counseling West in Sherman Oaks I worked with patients from diverse backgrounds and a broad range of concerns including anxiety, depression, existential dilemmas, sexuality and relationship issues. I am an Associate Therapist (AMFT 149186) working under the supervision of Dr. McDavitt.

Fees

My full fee is $180 per 50 minute session, but I offer therapy on a sliding scale, so ask me about the possibility of a lower fee if needed due to economic limitations.

Insurance

I am an in-network provider for Aetna. I am an out-of-network provider for other insurance companies, which means I can provide a monthly statement for you to submit for reimbursement if your coverage allows.
